Meet the Trainers: Sarah

Just in case you haven't had a chance to have a personal training session, we are doing a blog series featuring one of our awesome trainers each week.

This week, Sarah talks about why she became so involved in health and fitness and how she chose Dynamic Fitness!

How did you decide to become a personal trainer?
I went to college for sports medicine and realized that I wanted to really make a difference in peoples lives. I decided to become a personal trainer to help people reach their goals and to be happy with themselves.

Why did you choose to work at DF?
I became certified at Dynamic Fitness and after talking to Gloria and interning with her it really felt like a place I wanted to be a part of. Bryan has the same goal of helping people and that was why I chose to be a part of the team.

What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
I have struggled with my own body issues in the past and it is awesome to see someone becoming comfortable and happy with their body and conquering challenges they didn’t think they could.

What is the best part about Dynamic Fitness?
The welcoming atmosphere and the non-judgmental staff and customers!

What’s your favorite exercise?
I love kickboxing I have been doing it since I was 16 and that was the class that really made me want to be a part of the fitness industry in some way.

Three fun facts:
  • I am terrible with directions and need my GPS to get me everywhere
  • I love going to concerts and listening to live music
  • I am a hardcore Ohio State fan and get way into games when I watch them. I usually prefer to watch them with my Dad to avoid embarrassing myself.

Club Enhancement Week

Attention Dynamic Fitness members! Starting on July 4th, Dynamic Fitness will be closed through July 11th for our annual club enhancement week. We do this annually because we believe that the best way to improve your experience at DF is to commit to upgrades and additions every year.

So why shut down? So that we can have the time and space to do things the right way. From performing maintenance on our machines to installing new equipment to a deep clean and fresh coat of paint on the walls, we need the time to improve our gym for you.

We know that no one wants their gym to shut down. So, we’ve purchased all of our members a one week pass to the Strongsville Rec Center where you can work out during our renovations. Just simply show your DF membership card at the front desk, we've taken care of the rest.

What about tanning? Well we’ve taken care of that too. Since Skin Deep Mega Tanning is an affiliate partner; all of our members can tan there during Club Enhancement.

So while we shut down you have FREE tanning and a one week membership to the rec center.

We will be up and running again on July 12th, and we can’t wait for you to see all of the new changes!

If you want a behind the scenes look at all of the construction, stay in touch with us on Facebook and Twitter during the shutdown. New things will be happening daily as we work towards completing our massive makeover.

Here are a few of the changes that you can look forward to seeing:
  • New televisions
  • New equipment
  • Tanning bed ventilation – you won’t be feeling the heat from the tanning beds during your workout!
  • We’re spraying a sanitary coating on the entire gym – no bacteria can grow on this surface
  • DEEP CLEAN – we really mean this
  • New tanning bed bulbs
  • Fresh coat of paint
  • New mounted wall fans
  • Installation of outdoor speakers

These are just a few – we could go on forever, but we will post all of the changes as they happen to our social accounts!

Have a Happy and Healthy 4th of July!

Celebrating the 4th of July is all about family, friends, spending some quality time outdoors and fireworks, but you don’t have to sacrifice your healthy habits for the holiday. Here are some tips to help you enjoy the holiday, but avoid the food hangover that can happen the next day.
  • ·         Whole wheat is the answer – Filling up on foods like potato chips, ice cream and pop spike insulin and open up your body’s floodgates for fat storage. Use whole wheat buns instead of the typical white to keep fat at bay and help control your insulin levels.

  • ·         Grill up lean meats – Most family cookouts serve hot dogs and hamburgers, but try to eat lean cuts of chicken or beef instead.

  • ·         Practice portion control – While there are dozens of ways to cut back what you put on your plate, try splitting up meals with you and a friend and be sure to include enough fruits and veggies on your plate (which leaves less room for more fattening items).

  • ·         Don’t skip breakfast! – Don’t skip a meal to try and save calories for later. This will lead to overeating and making poor choices due to hunger and low blood sugar.

  • ·         Load up on grilled veggies – Fill up at least half of your plate with veggies to avoid overdoing it on higher calorie options. The fiber will help fill you up, and if you still want seconds be sure to fill up your plate the same way.

  • ·         Fruit as a dessert – When the rest of the family goes for the cake, cookies and brownies, grab a bowl of fruit salad. It’s just as sweet – but better for you!

  • ·         Think before you drink – There is a place for alcohol in a healthy lifestyle, and making smart choices make all of the difference. One margarita can have up to 800 calories, not to mention all of the sugar! Be sure to limit how much and what types of drinks you have, and be sure to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.

  • ·         Get up and move! – Try to avoid just sitting around at your family picnic, just by standing alone you can burn about 120 extra calories a day. So stroll around, mingle with your relatives and maybe even start a family game of bocce ball.

Have a safe and Happy 4th of July! Let us know how you stay healthy over the holiday weekend in the comments below.
